Privacy Policy

Gameday ("we", "us") makes a live scoring and team management app for baseball and softball
teams. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and what control you have
over it. Plain language, no tricks.
The short version. We collect the minimum needed to run your team's games and
stats. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not share your data with
advertisers or data brokers. You can export or delete your team's data.
What we collect
Information you give us
-
Account details — an email address and password if you create an account.
Fans can watch without an account at all.
-
Team and roster information — team name, player names, jersey numbers,
positions, bats/throws, and any optional profile details a player or coach chooses to enter.
-
Game data — scores, plays, statistics, lineups, schedules, game locations,
and availability responses.
-
Messages — team chat messages, announcements and poll responses you send in
the app.
-
Optional uploads — a team logo, or files you import such as a schedule PDF or
a roster export from another app.
Information collected automatically
-
Basic technical data needed to run the service — device and browser type.
-
Crash and error diagnostics, collected by Gameday itself rather than a
third-party service. When something breaks we record the error message, where in the app it
happened, the app version, and — while you are signed in — your account and team id, so the
fault can be traced to a real situation. The report is scrubbed of personal details before it
is stored, every field is length-capped, and repeats of the same fault are not stored again.
If you delete your account, your account id is removed from any crash reports already stored.
-
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see which screens get used, so the app
can be improved. It records the page you are on, the page title and the app version, and
Google sets its own identifier for the browser or device. We deliberately do not send names,
email addresses, invite codes or team join codes to it, and we do not use it to identify a
player or to advertise to anyone. It does not run for accounts we know belong to
someone under 18. Once the age question has been answered as "under 13" or "13 to
17" — on this device or on the account, from any device — analytics is switched off
automatically. There is no setting to find and nothing to turn on. The one exception we can
see is the very first screen of a brand-new install, before the question has been answered
at all: that page view has already been sent, and everything after the answer has not.
-
Analytics on this website (thegamedayapp.com), separately from the app, so we
can tell whether anyone is finding it. It is a different Google Analytics property from the
app's and it records the page and the browser's Google identifier only. The website does not
know who you are and never asks your age, so the under-18 exclusion above cannot apply here —
which is why the pages carry nothing personal to begin with.
-
An anonymous identifier so viewers can follow a live game without signing up.
If you later create an account, that identifier is linked to it.
-
Push notification tokens, only if you turn on notifications.
We do not collect precise device location. Game locations are field names or
addresses that a coach types in.
How we use it
- To run the app — scoring, stats, standings, schedules, chat and notifications.
- To show your team's information to the people you invited to your team.
-
To generate optional AI features you trigger, such as game recaps and player insights. Those
requests are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the text and are not used to train
anyone's models.
- To fix bugs, keep the service secure, and prevent abuse.
- To contact you about your team or important changes to the service.
Who can see your data
-
Your team — people who join your team with your invite code can see the
roster, schedule, stats and chat for that team.
-
Your league — if your team is in a league, league standings and results are
visible to that league.
-
The public — only what a coach or player deliberately shares: a public team
or league page, a shareable player profile, or a link to a live game. These are off unless
someone turns them on.
-
Service providers — we use Google Firebase for hosting, authentication,
database and notifications, and Anthropic for AI features. They process data on our behalf
under their own security commitments. We don't have any other data sharing arrangements.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or cross-context
behavioral advertising.
Children and youth players
Gameday is designed so that adults manage a minor's participation. Children do
not register themselves — a parent, guardian or coach adds a player to a roster. For players
under 18:
- Profiles, photos and shareable links are private by default.
- Public sharing of a minor's profile requires a parent or guardian to opt in.
- We collect only what the game needs, and never a minor's home address or school.
- The app does not create private one-to-one adult-to-child message channels.
-
A parent or guardian may review, correct or delete their child's information by contacting us
at the address below.
-
Adding a player to a roster is a consent. When an adult — a coach, a parent
or a guardian — adds a player, they are telling us they have the right to do so and are
agreeing on that player's behalf to us holding what the game needs: their name, jersey
number, position, and the statistics of games they play in. If that was ever not true, tell
us and we will remove the player.
If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without the required
parental consent, we will delete it.
If you are under 18 — removing something you posted
If you are under 18 and you posted something in a team or league chat, you can delete
it yourself: tap your own message and choose Delete. It disappears for everyone who
could see it.
If you can't reach it — you've left the team, lost access to the account, or it's something
other than a chat message — email us at the address below, say what you posted and where, and
we'll remove it. A parent or guardian can ask on your behalf.
Two honest limits. Removing something takes it out of the app and off any public page, but we
can't reach copies other people already made — a screenshot, or a page someone else saved. And
it may persist for a short time in routine backups before those rotate. California residents
under 18 have this right by law; we offer it to everyone under 18 regardless of where they
live, because it would be strange not to.
Chat, reporting and moderation
We do not routinely read team or league chats. Messages are visible to the
people in that team or league, and we don't monitor them for content.
-
Reporting. Anyone can report a message from the app. A report sends us the
reported message, the name and account identifier of the person who sent it, and the fact
that you reported it, so a person can review it and act.
-
Blocking. You can block another user. Blocking hides their messages on your
device and does not notify them.
-
What we do with a report. We review it, and may warn or remove the person
responsible, remove content, or close an account. We keep reports so repeated behavior can be
recognized.
-
Access. As the operator of the service we are technically able to access
data stored in it, including messages. We access chat content only to investigate a report,
to fix a technical fault, or where the law requires it — not for browsing, advertising or
analytics.
-
Legal obligations. Where the law requires it, we will preserve or disclose
information and report illegal content to the appropriate authorities. In the United States,
apparent child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children as required by law.
If something in a chat concerns you, report it in the app or email us at the address below.
Your choices
-
Export. A coach can export a full season of stats as a CSV file at any time.
-
Correct. Roster, profile and game data can be edited in the app.
-
Delete. Email us to delete your account or a team's data. We'll confirm and
remove it, except anything we're required to keep.
-
Notifications. Push notifications are off until you turn them on, and can be
turned off in the app or your device settings.
-
Analytics. If the account is under 18, there is nothing to choose — analytics
is off automatically and stays off. For everyone else Gameday has no in-app switch today.
Browser and device controls do work — Google Analytics honors "Do Not Track" style opt-outs,
ad-blocking extensions block it outright, and iOS and Android both offer a device-level limit
on ad and analytics identifiers.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete or port
your information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. Contact us and we'll
honor them.
Data retention and security
We keep your team's data for as long as the team is active, because past seasons are the point.
Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure, encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is
limited to what's needed to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we don't
collect anything we don't need, which is the best protection there is.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in
the app. Continuing to use Gameday after a change means you accept the updated policy.
